Wrigley Field has been home to the Cubs since 1914 making it the second oldest park in baseball, just behind the Boston Red Sox home field of Fenway

The Cubs have won
their division three times in their franchises history, winning the title
in 1984, 1989 and 2003. The Cubs also earned a spot in the playoffs as the
Wild Card team in 1998. Three times, in 1984, 1989 and 2003, the Cubs made
it to the League Championship Series, but could not make it to the World
Series in any of the 3 attempts. |

League Champions in 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1885 and 1886.

to the World Series 10 times in their history, but have only managed to
win twice, becoming World Champions in 1907 and 1908.

Because the Cubs have
gone nearly 100 years without a World Series title, they have been dubbed,
"the Loveable Losers" due to their inability to win the Series or even
contend for them. |

The Cubs have retired 4 players’ numbers. Those players are Ron Santo (#10), Earnie Banks (#14), Billy Williams (#26) and Jackie Robinson (#42) (Robinson’s number was retired in all of baseball).

The Cubs nearly won the National League – Central Division title during the 2001 season, and hoped to finish the job in 2002. The Cubs however could not continue the successes they had the year before and were under.500 for most of the season. At mid-season, the team saw their manager fired and rookie pitcher Mark Prior go 6-6. At seasons end, the team manager would change again, in an effort to get back to 2001 form.
The 2003 season was a resurgence for the Cubs. The Cubs earned a spot in the playoffs and faced the Atlanta Braves in the National League Division Series. In that Series, the Cubs would win in 5 games, to earn the right to play the Florida Marlins in the League Championship Series. In that Series, the Cubs dreams of finally getting back to the World Series were shattered as the Marlins beat the Cubs in 7 games.
The 2004 season saw the Cubs achieve there first back-to-back winning seasons since the 1971-72 seasons. Although injuries plagued the team through much of the season, the Cubs saw the return of ace pitcher Greg Maddux who earned his 300th career win. Slugger Sammy Sosa also became the Cubs all time home run leader, passing the legendary Ernie Banks. |
