With a record of
46 and 35 as of July 9th, 2004, the Texas Rangers are having a
turnaround season. The general manager Buck Showalter said, "If
someone asked me which of our players should be on the All-Star team,
I'd say the whole team. That's kind of what this year has been about
for us, the sum of the parts." The whole team did not make the
All-Star list, but five members will be representing the AL in
Houston. Those being honored include Alfonso Soriano, shortstop
Michael Young, third baseman Hank Blalock, left-handed starter Kenny
Rogers and right-handed closer Francisco Cordero. Five All-Stars is
the most the Texas Rangers have ever had represented in the game. They
have had four in three other games in 1989, 1998 and 1999. Ranger’s
third baseman Hank Blalock is not going to join his infielders at the
All-Star game, but he does get to compete in the Century 21 Home Run
Derby. First Baseman Mark Teixeira has been honored by being names the
American League’s Player of the Week for the week ending July 4th,
2004.
Texas Rangers play games before their hometown Arlington fans on the
Ameriquest Field. This facility is magnificent and keeps in good
condition as it is a home to only baseball. It baseball field itself
serves as the middle of a 270-acre complex. Around the complex is a
baseball museum, a child’s learning center, a four-story office
building, a youth baseball park, a 12-acre lake, and parks along with
other recreational areas. It cost approximately 191 million dollars.
