With a record of 51 and 30,
the New York Yankees are sporting the best record in Major League
Baseball as of July 7, 2004. With the talent and heart this team has
this year, not only do they have a chance at returning to the World
Series, but also taking the title. The talent is endless on this team,
as six Yankees are expected to join manager Joe Torre at the 2004
All-Star Game in Houston. These six Yankees include Alex Rodriguez,
Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Tom
Gordon. Gary Sheffield has set a new major league record as he was
chosen to the All-Star Game for the eighth time in his career and will
represent his fifth different team. Though Sheffield's left shoulder
has been causing him moderate discomfort when he reaches down or
swings upwards, he plans on carrying out his MLB record by
representing the American League at the All-Star Game until George
Steinbrenner tells him differently. Sheffield is not the only Yankee
to suffer injury, Derek Jeter has also endured slight discomfort as he
was bruised, along with suffering a cut requiring seven stitches, from
his miraculous catch after a head first dive into the stands against
the Red Sox. After the game, George Steinbrenner commented, "The
Yankees are all great warriors who don't know how to quit. Jeter is a
great leader and an inspiration for all of our nation's youth. This
was the most exciting game I've ever seen in any sport."
The infamous Yankees stadium that was built upon the talent and heart
that surrounded Babe Ruth, soon came to be known as “The House that
Ruth Built”. It was the home of the first of thirty-three World
Series, in which the Yankees were the champions. The stadium has an
astounding number of World titles, totaling 26, and is now referred to
“The House of Champions”. As for being a wondrous home for the
Yankees, it also wants to be a safe and fun place for fans and their
families. Therefore the stadium is taking extreme security measures do
to terrorist threat in America. There will be no leaving and
reentering, and all bags will be inspected at the entrance. It is
suggested that fans come two hours before the game start, because with
the extra security measure there is to be expected delays. |
